Precast channels and kerbs are long-lasting and require little maintenance. They are simple to install and can last many years. Because they are resistant to many threats, they make a great choice for bridges and roads. They are strong enough for heavy loads and are therefore ideal for high density applications. Precast concrete channels and kerbs are an excellent choice for projects that require road infrastructure.
Concrete should be placed at the right width. For residential footpaths, the minimum width should be 75mm. However, for driveways or highways, the concrete thickness should be between 100mm-150mm. Concrete should be compacted to prevent cracking after it sets. Place the concrete and smoothen it to a depth of 25-50mm from the top of your edging unit.
To prevent flooding, curved profile stream kerbs or streams are usually laid away from pavement edges. In low traffic areas, curved channels are used often as drainage channels or edge restraints. Flat-bottomed dished channel versions larger in size are used on motorways as a combination edge restraint/drainage channel.
High containment channel kerbs or channels are passive traffic control devices that deter vehicle overriding. They can also protect vulnerable road installations, like bus stops. The Titan kerb provides a visual separation between trafficked versus non-trafficked areas. It is 400mm in high. These kerbs serve as passive pedestrian refuges.
There are many options for these products, some even made specifically for your project. Straight units measure 915mm long, while radius units measure only 780mm. Modern ranges average 780mm in size. All kerbs have an 'watermark', which is a line at the top of the face that surfacing can't be extended above. The watermark is typically 25mm or more above kerb's surface.
Road kerbs keep the carriageway edge intact and act like a physical barrier between pedestrians & road traffic. They also serve to drain surface water. Road kerbs come in many different materials. Pre-cast concrete is now more popular than natural stone like granite, which was popular fifty year ago. Steel kerbs can also be used for motorways or other high-traffic areas. Both pre-cast or extruded kerbs come in many designs and colors.
Dished Channel Kerbs may be used in conjunction with concrete and stone wall materials. They are usually produced using a hydraulic press.
